January 2015 Recap

I’ve never done monthly blog recaps, but I thought I’d try one and see how it goes. Enjoy! Or not. I mean, I usually don’t read those types of posts on other people’s blogs…

Review: Sabotaged (Alaskan Courage #5) by Dani Pettrey

Sabotaged (Alaskan Courage #5)

I received a copy of this title from NetGalley. It does not impact my review.

Sabotaged will be available February 3, 2015.

Synopsis from Good Reads:

Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey’s search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light. Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits.

Kirra’s uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank’s daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper’s bidding or she will die. Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl’s life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.

Sabotaged is the final book in the Alaskan Courage series. It centers on the final McKenna sibling, Reef, and his love interest, Kirra, while still involving some of the other characters we’ve come to know throughout the series.

The story follows Reef and Kirra as they investigate the kidnapping of Kirra’s cousin and what her uncle is being forced to do to rescue her, while developing their relationships with each other and with God. As in Pettrey’s previous books, my biggest complaint with the mystery is that it spends way too much time on a red herring that essentially does nothing to move the story along. However, the central mystery was pretty well done. I was also expecting to see more of the Iditarod race, but most of the story took place away from it.

My favorite part of the book was probably the epilogue where we finally see all the McKenna siblings and their significant others together. I really enjoyed reading about each of them and am sorry to see them go.

Overall, I enjoyed Sabotaged. I felt it was a good ending to the Alaskan Courage series. Pettrey’s writing style has steadily improved throughout the series and I look forward to seeing what she does next. I would recommend this book to fans of Christian fiction, mystery, and romance.

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Debut Novels For 2015

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is: Top Ten Most Anticipated Debut Novels For 2015. I feel like this was just done recently? I also don’t have a lot of “debuts” on my TBR list. So instead I’m going with a list of the First Ten Most Anticipated Books of 2015. These are books on my TBR in the order they are published in 2015.

The Magician's Lie

1. The Magician’s Lie by Greer Macallister. 1/13/15. The comparison to The Night Circus is the biggest reason I want to read this.

First Frost

2. First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen. 1/20/15. I won a copy of this from Good Reads – my first ever giveaway win from them! I read Garden Spells to prepare for it and loved it and am now anxiously awaiting for my copy to arrive!

Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #0.1)

3. Fairest by Marissa Meyer. 1/27/15. Do I really need to explain why I want this?

Unbecoming

4. Unbecoming by Rebecca Scherm. 1/27/15. I think I entered a giveaway somewhere for this one? It’s a psychological thriller “for fans of Gillian Flynn”, so I have high hopes for it.

The Mime Order (The Bone Season, #2)

5. The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon. 1/27/15. I’ve actually already read this one and it was very good! Read it!

Invaded (Alienated, #2)

6. Invaded by Melissa Landers. 2/3/15. I wasn’t as impressed with Alienated as I wanted to be, but I still want to give it’s sequel a shot.

Sabotaged (Alaskan Courage #5)

7. Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey. 2/3/15. I’m actually reading an arc of this right now and am enjoying it! Love the McKenna family!

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)

8. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. 2/10/15. The early reviews I’ve read of this have been great so far and I’m so excited to read it!

The Ruby Circle (Bloodlines, #6)

9. The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead. 2/10/15. The conclusion to the Bloodlines series! I need to know what happens with Sydney and Adrian!

The Return (Titan, #1)

10. The Return by Jennifer Armentrout. 2/17/15. Seth’s spin-off!!!!

What 2015 books are you looking forward to?
