Olympic Book Tag

Olympic Book Tag

I saw this tag over on Brandie is a Book Junkie and since I am a little obsessed with the Olympics, I knew I had to do it.

01 - Olympics

27779275

This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills. I read this book in one sitting.

02 - Olympics

9277340

My One and Only by Kristan Higgins.

03 - Olympics

27189194

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid. There are not many books that can pull off a good love triangle, but this one definitely does.

04- Olympics

16221851

Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan. This is a re-telling and I think maybe I should’ve read the source material to really appreciate it.

05 - Olympics

25369773

Truly Madly Greekly by Mandy Baggot. I don’t actually remember if this takes place in the summer, but it’s definitely a beach read, so I’m counting it.

06 - Olympics

18966819

Golden Son by Pierce Brown. And I loved every second of it!

07 - Olympics

15839976

Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

08 - Olympics

22752127

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

09 - Olympics

25814248

The Perfect Neighbors by Sarah Pekkanen. Not a lot of plot, but loads of character development.

10 - Olympics

233722

The Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin. I read so, so many of these books as a kid.

11 - Olympics

6087756

White Cat by Holly Black. This isn’t necessarily about animals, but the white “cat” plays an important role.

12 - Olympics

25891528

The Goodbye Bride by Denise Hunter. While I liked many other books by this author, this one just drove me completely insane.

13 - Olympics

13449693

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I just loved the group of friends in this series.

14 - Olympics

22247695

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Ok, this one isn’t actually about the Olympics, but it does have a side character that’s an ice skater trying to get into the Olympics.

OTP Book Tag

I saw this over on Books for Thought  (go check her out!) and thought it looked fun. OTP, for those that don’t know = One True Pair.

1. An a unpopular OTP that you ship

256683

Clary & Simon from The Mortal Instruments series. I felt bad for Simon that Clary led him on for so long. At the end of the day, though, I think Simon is too good for Clary, so I guess I don’t ship it all that much. But I couldn’t think of anything else.

2. An OTP that you didn’t ship but now you do

13188676

Warner and Juliette from the Shatter Me series. The first book was obviously Adam Forever, but book two totally changed that.

3. Your most hated OTP

25916942

Hayley and Bryce from Blackmail Boyfriend. Hayley is a complete psycho and needs therapy, not a boyfriend.

4. An OTP that took way too long to get together

10163292

Jennifer and Anthony from The Last Letter from your Lover. It took decades.

5. Your favourite non-canon OTP

16101168   17453983

Cricket and Anna from the Anna and the French Kiss series. Cricket is my favorite and he deserves much better than Lola. And while I do like Anna and St. Claire together (once he finally dumped his girlfriend), I always thought she and Cricket would work.

6. Your favourite BROTP

15995747

The Raven Boys, hands down.

7. An OTP you adored in the books but not as much in the movies or tv adaptation

140077

Sookie and Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse Series/True Blood. They were a major thing for many of the books, but barely a thing in the show (though I never saw the last two or three seasons of the show).

8. A popular OTP that no matter how hard you tried you just can’t ship it

20579287

Cole and Ali from The White Rabbit Chronicles. I just can’t even. I’m on the third book right now and every part I read that’s about their relationship makes me want to throw my Nook. I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish this series (so if anyone wants to give me a spoiler on how it all ends, I’m all ears!)

9. Your favourite LGBT + OTP

23734628

Simon and Baz from Carry On.

10. Your all time favourite OTP

18309803

Kami and Jared from The Lynbun Legacy series

13206900

Cinder and Kai from The Lunar Chronicles

I tag anyone who would like to participate.

Mean Girls Book Tag

I saw this over on Confessions of a Book Geek and loved it and knew I had to do it.

It’s Pronounced Like “Cady”.

Which fictional characters’ names did you get completely wrong?

Jambo Mean Girls Gif

I just finished A Court of Thorns and Roses and I had no idea how to pronounce Feyre until I found out there was a pronunciation key in the back of the book. *Note to authors – if you need a pronunciation key for your character names, you probably should just re-name your characters!*

She Doesn’t Even Go Here!

Pick a fictional character that you would like to place in another fictional character’s world.

She doesn't even go here gif

I think I’ve said this before, but I would love to put Fia from the Mind Games series into the Shatter Me series. I would so love for her and Juliette to be best friends. I also think she would get along super well with Warner.

On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink.

Repetition, repetition. Which book gave you déja vu of another book while reading it?

On wednesdays we wear pink gif

Red Queen was pretty similar to a lot of other books.

You all have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.

Which book gave you the complete opposite of girl power feels?

who here has ever been called a slut gif

Sang from the Ghostbird series. She completely lets the boys control her every move and word and it’s uncomfortable.

You Go Glen Coco!

Name a character you felt like you wanted to cheer on whilst reading.

Katniss from the Hunger Games series, of course!

Get in Loser, We’re Going Shopping!

How long do you typically spend at a book shop?

get in loser we're going shopping gif

I generally try to avoid stores as much as possible, so if I’m going into one it’s with a specific purpose and I’m in and out. I do spend a lot of time browsing the Barnes & Noble website for my Nook, though.

It’s Not My Fault You’re Like In Love With Me Or Something!

Which character would have to get out a restraining order on you, if they were real?

it's not my fault you're like in love with me or something gif

The Raven boys, Warner from Shatter Me, Daemon Black from Lux, Sean Kendrick from the Scorpio Races, Cricket Bell from Lola and the Boy Next Door…There would probably be more than restraining orders since these are all YA characters….

I Can’t Help It That I’m Popular.

Which over-hyped book were you cautious about reading?

i can't help it that I'm popular gif

Emmy & Oliver. I ended up giving it 3 stars, but I was super disappointed in it.

She’s A Life Ruiner. She Ruins Peoples’ Lives.

We all love Regina George. Name a villain you just love to hate.

i'm scared gif

Amy Dunne from Gone Girl and the Dane Twins from A Darker Shade of Magic

I’m Not Like A Regular Mom, I’m A Cool Mom.

Your favourite fictional parents.

That Is So Fetch!

Which book or series would you love to catch on?

that was so fetch gif

I adore The Lynburn Legacy and wish it got more attention.

How Do I Even Begin To Explain Regina George?

Describe your ideal character to read about.

punched me in the face gif

The Raven Boys and Blue. Their friendship as a whole. Their individual personalities. I could honestly read about these characters forever – doing anything!

I Just Have A Lot Of Feelings.

A book that gave you a bad case of ‘the feels’?

So many feelings gif

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes made me cry. Like a lot.

Nice Wig Janice, What’s It Made Of? – Your Mom’s Chest Hair!

Which character’s one liners would you love to claim for your own?

I was trying not to repeat books, but for the third time I need to reference The Lynburn Legacy and say Kami Glass. She is such a funny character and I love pretty much everything she says.

Boo, You Whore.

Name a time a characters decision has made you roll your eyes.

Becky Bloomwood from the Shopaholic series. That girl just never learns!!

Reviewing the Unreviewed: May

I read a lot of books that I don’t end up reviewing for whatever reason. Some because I wasn’t impressed. Some because I didn’t have the time. Some I just wasn’t feeling it on whatever particular day I finished. I thought I’d start doing a post once a month  with just the couple thoughts I shared on Good Reads.

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1)

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry. Read May 3-6. 2 stars.

This series seems to be so beloved in the blogosphere, but I didn’t really find it to be my cup of tea. While the characters’ drama was a little to a lot heavier than your standard YA, every other thing about it was a list of clichés. However, it wasn’t all bad and I’ll get to the rest of the series just to see if I find the next books more enjoyable.

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2)

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2) by Katie McGarry. Read May 12-14. 3 stars.

I actually liked this book a lot more than the first in the series. Beth – who I hated in the first book – grew on me in this one, though I still don’t love her. I do love Uncle Scott! Like so much. I also really like Ryan. He is basically a perfect boy living in imperfect circumstances. His character was a little unrealistic, but he was sweet and I don’t care.

The pace was a little slow and there were kind of long periods of time where NOTHING really happens. I feel like it could’ve been maybe a little shorter, but overall I enjoyed it and I’ll continue to the next book in the series.

Crash into You (Pushing the Limits, #3)

Crash Into You (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry. Read May 14-19. 3 stars.
This book was ok for me. Isaiah was not my favorite character in the previous books and he’s still not my favorite, though I liked him a lot more in this book. I enjoyed the chapters from Rachel’s perspective the most. It was interesting to read about her anxiety since I suffer a bit from that myself. This series still isn’t my favorite, but I like it enough to continue it.
Omens (Cainsville, #1)
Omens (Cainsville #1) by Kelley Armstrong. Read May 24-27. 2 stars.
I think this book would’ve been better if it was about 100 pages less. It started strong and then was way slow and kind of boring and then it got exciting and then it ended on an odd note. I didn’t find it satisfying in terms of the mysteries of Cainsville, but I’ll probably end up reading the next book.

RE-READ
Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1)
What can I say? This book is so cute. I was thinking that the third book in the series was coming out in May, but I guess it’s not until August. But I still enjoyed the re-read.
Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)
I LOVE Cricket Bell. And his stupid name.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books That Will Make You Swoon

639f0-toptentuesday

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, as always hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is “Top Ten Book that will make you Swoon”.

The definition of swoon is “to be overwhelmed by ecstatic joy” (or “to faint”, but I think I like the ecstatic joy thing better).  So if you need a little more ecstatic joy in your reading life, check out these books:

1 & 2. Attachments  and Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

Attachments   Fangirl

When I think Ecstatic Joy, I think Rainbow Rowell. It is impossible to not feel happy when reading her books. Things may go awry, but they always end up great. Her characters are amazing.

3. The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins

The Next Best Thing

Ok, so I could put every Kristan Higgins book on this list, but I’ll stick with one. Though there is a lot of sadness in this book, there is also so much joy. I love the characters, the romance, the writing.

4. & 5. Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins.

Anna and the French Kiss   Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)

While I have my issues with these books, they are adorable and sweet and fun. Ecstatic Joy-worthy.

6. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus

This book is just so beautifully written. I’m in awe of it.

7. The Lux Series by Jennifer Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux, #1)

Her writing is fun, her characters are great. You just can’t help feeling the joy with JLA books.

8. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1)

I just loved everything about this book. The writing was so witty and fun. Even though there were lots of unfortunate things going on for the characters, there were so many other times I just couldn’t keep the smile off my face.

9. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Ignite Me (Shatter Me, #3)

Ok, so there are obviously trials and tribulations in this book, but there’s so much emotion as well. Warner definitely give me ecstatic joy in this book. And the fact that it ended the series so well!

10. I’ve got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

I've Got Your Number

There’s so much adorable and happy about this book.

What books make you swoon?

Monday’s Minutes

Monday’s Minutes is my weekly post about what I’m reading and what I’m reading next.

WHAT I’M READING

Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

What I think so far: What is up with Perkins and cheaters? Like the first book in the series, this books is about a couple that obviously want to be together, but one of them is in a relationship they aren’t ready to give up. This time it’s our main character, Lola. I find Lola to be less relatable and sympathetic than I found Anna in the first book, but overall I still like her. And I love, love, love Cricket Bell. And this is pretty much just as adorable as Anna and the French Kiss.

WHAT I’M READING NEXT

Fangirl

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl comes out tomorrow! I usually don’t rush to buy new books (unless they’re long awaited next installments in a series), but I am in some desperate need of a little Rainbow Rowell.

What are you reading?
