I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. It does not impact my review.
My Lady’s Choosing: An Interactive Romance Novel will be available 4/3/18.
I love the concept of this book so much. I have very fond memories of the Choose Your Own Adventure books from childhood and I love the idea of it for adults.
If you are unfamiliar with the choose your own adventure concept, it is set up so that at the end of every scene you are given a choice of how you would like to proceed (which potential suitor you’d like to meet, whether to continue a conversation or walk away, whether to stay in a situation or leave it for a new adventure, etc.) and the corresponding page number to turn to. I read through the book several times choosing different scenarios to follow and I feel like I only scratched the surface on the different possibilities.
While the concept was really fun, the plots were all pretty “trashy romance novel”-ish, which isn’t really my cup of tea. The tone was pretty tongue-in-cheek, though, which I enjoyed. I didn’t particularly like the main character, which is kind of ironic because it’s supposed to be me. Even though I got to always choose “my” path, I didn’t always like how she handled the choices.
Overall, I did enjoy My Lady’s Choosing. While the plot lines left a little to be desired, I loved the concept. I feel like I only read a few of the many possible scenarios and plan on picking it up again to try some of the other untraveled paths.
Overall Rating (out of 5): 3 Stars
I really used to love books like this when I was younger… but as I tried to look for choose your own adventure books aimed at older readers (than MG), I found that they were almost trying too hard and I didn’t like any of the “main” characters that were supposed to be me. It sounds like this one didn’t escape that fate either…
Yes, it was definitely kind of hard to connect with the main character because “I” was reacting in ways I never would. I did think it was a great effort, though! I would definitely read more books with this concept.
Ooooh. I’ve never read a Choose Your Own but I’m familiar with the concept. I feel like I’d be inundated by indecision trying to go with the “best” decision 😂
That is exactly why I had to re-read it several times going with different decisions haha.
I love the idea of this, but I’m surprised they all go trashy romance novel. You think one would do something different at least.
Well, all the choices were all consistent with the genre, which I can appreciate. I just don’t love the genre haha.
I reviewed this one today as well! I agree with you that it did feel a bit like a trashy romance. The concept is pretty amazing, but it certainly didn’t wow me as much as I had hoped. 🙂
Exactly! I had high hopes for it. But it was still fun, even though it disappointed a bit. I’m going to head over to read your review!
Great review! It sounds like a fun read! I really need to give it a shot.
Thank you! It’s a great concept. I hope you enjoy it if you get to it!
I loved reading choose-you-own-adventure books with my sons, but I think I’ll pass on this one.
I loved them as a kid, too! It’s such a fun idea, this particular one’s story just wasn’t really my cup of tea.
What a cool idea for a novel 🙂 I can’t even recall ever coming across one as a child… Too bad though the MC didn’t really work out that well! 😀
It’s definitely a fun concept! I’m so sad you never read one as a kid, though! They were some of my favorites.

Wow, I’ve never heard of this concept. Sounds fun — while I might not pick up this one, I’ll have to look for an interactive book like this. Happy reading!
It is a very fun concept! The actual plotlines weren’t completely my cup of tea, though.
